BONANÇA + MALVA
Carolina Viana, originally from Viana do Castelo and based in Porto, emerged in the music scene with redoma, a Porto-based duo she formed with producer Joana Rodrigues.
The desire to present solo work came from a long-standing restlessness — the wish to have a voice for which she alone was responsible. This is how MALVA emerged, the result of that individual search and experimentation.
Her debut album vens ou ficas was released in October 2023 and featured in several lists of the best national albums of the year. poros is the name of her second record, scheduled for release in January 2025.
It is a very different album from the previous one — a kind of corridor or passage. It is more collaborative, as, having moved beyond the bedroom where vens ou ficas was born, she allowed other guests to come in, calmly, without making much noise.
“And those who have come and continue to come are more than those who accompany me on vocals, guitar, or late-night writing sessions — they are those who inspire me, who give me faith, who give me chills. poros is that: a willingness to let myself go and be, and to be collectively as well.”
Perhaps what comes next will be an entirely different universe.
bonança began to take shape in 2018, in a bedroom in Massamá, when Ricardo Barroso decided to try to materialize the musical ideas that came into his head.
With message as its foundation, bonança navigates freely across musical genres, ranging from post-rock to bedroom pop, from IDM to pop-punk.
In 2021, the track Oceanário was selected for the compilation Novos Talentos Fnac 2021, which proved to be a launching platform for the artist’s career.
In 2026, he will release his debut album só, in which he moves away from the band format and the frenetic concerts of previous years, presenting a collection of songs where bonança returns to the essentials, as it all began: voice and guitar.
só is a celebration of all the dimensions contained within that two-letter word.
Composed over the past three years, this collection of songs throws open both windows and doors to the reality of someone who remains uncertain about their place in the world, at a stage where childhood dreams have long faded, yet the emptiness of life’s routines is still hard to swallow.
