MARIA REIS
Suspiro...

Following what can be seen as a trilogy of short- and medium-length releases, and exactly two years after Benefício da Dúvida brought that cycle to a close—a period marked by constant learning that saw her flourish and establish herself as one of the most essential voices in contemporary Portuguese songwriting—Maria Reis returns with Suspiro....

Created in close collaboration with Tomé Silva—a young and versatile musician and producer who has become one of the most exciting names in Portuguese music in recent years—the album was conceived and recorded in the intimacy of her bedroom. Suspiro... does not seek to break away from its recent past, as a distinct artistic language has already been firmly established. Instead, it reflects a lyrical and musical maturity only possible through embracing previous lessons and transforming them into a new milestone in the timelessness of song.

A reflection of different emotional states and physical spaces experienced over time, Suspiro... carries within the apparent simplicity of its title a multitude of meanings. Such a natural gesture can express irritation or love, resignation or resilience. Life in a sigh? We've certainly been further away from that idea.

A keen and sensitive observer of both the intimate and the surrounding world, Maria Reis continues to explore language in a way that is uniquely her own, creating poetry that is brutally honest, raw, and rich in imagery, elevating everyday experiences through lyrical expression.

Marked by a resigned yet dreamlike melancholy, Suspiro... is built around acoustic and electric guitars, simple yet expressive rhythms, floating vocal harmonies, and a voice whose emotional delivery feels almost tangible. Unafraid to expose her vulnerabilities, Maria Reis crafts some of the album's most memorable moments, from the almost tragic restraint of Amor Serpente, to the radiant pop of Estagnação and T-shirt, the stark honesty of Holofote, the hypnotic intensity of Pico, the electrified energy of Meta Data, and finally Coisas do Passado, where playful keyboards and effects bring to a close a mosaic of real and imagined experiences in which anyone can recognise themselves.

Ultimately, Suspiro... represents another essential step in Maria Reis' artistic journey, reaffirming the honesty, sensitivity, and singular voice that have come to define her work.
