Circus Rehearsals are the result of residencies at Clube Erva Daninha – Sala da Erva Daninha, in Espaço Agra. This program supports shows that are still in the creation phase and yet to premiere. They are presented here in an open rehearsal format, with content and duration still under development. The activity seeks to stimulate the creation of contemporary circus while also fostering contact between creators, audiences, and programmers in a relaxed and constructive atmosphere. Beyond providing the space, Erva Daninha also offers financial, technical, and communication support to the artists. https://ervadaninha.pt/wp1/index.php/ensaios-de-circo-new/ Clamor is a project that brings together the traditional art of bell ringing — the manual ringing of church bells — with contemporary artistic practices such as percussion, movement, and vertical rope. The project creates a dialogue between bell-ringing and circus techniques with the aim of building an installation-based work, reimagining the historical and cultural properties of bells as witnesses of collective memory. Clamor aspires to be an immersive experience that questions and celebrates the connection between past and present, between tradition and experimentation, inviting audiences to reflect on the impact and power of ringing — sensory, sonic, and symbolic. The project focuses particularly on the traditional bell-ringing techniques of bamboar and volteio (typically used to announce disasters) — techniques that demand from the ringer an intense physical relationship with the instrument, through counterweight and body strength, establishing a direct parallel with the techniques used in vertical rope (an aerial acrobatics apparatus). In addition to this association, Clamor promotes an encounter between conventionally distant musical worlds, combining the ancestral sound of bells with new sonorities derived from experimental percussion. At the same time, Clamor challenges the place of women within religious spaces and imaginaries, questioning the gestures historically permitted to them, the desires forbidden to them, and the representations imposed upon them. By introducing a female, queer, and non-believing body into a space traditionally governed by norms of gender and faith, the project proposes a poetic friction that is not guided by confrontation, but by symbolic displacement and re-signification. This body summons affections and sensitivities often silenced — care, eroticism, naivety — using them as vehicles for aesthetic and political reconfiguration. Thus, Clamor proposes itself as a space of listening and reinvention. An artistic project where the gestures of the bell ringer — physical, pendular, ritualized — intertwine with aerial acrobatics, percussion, and installation, creating a dialogue between the masculine tradition of this craft and the provocative presence of a female dissident body that claims new gestures, presences, and ways of inhabiting the sacred. The artistic direction is by Margarida Montenÿ, with dramaturgical support and guidance by Silvana Ivaldi, sound composition by Pedro Góis and André Dias, lighting design by Pedro Nabais, and scenic structure design by Emanuel Santos. Clamor is supported by the Outdoor Arts Portugal Creation Grant, with co-production by Bússola / 23 Milhas, Festival LEME (Ílhavo), and Casa Varela (Pombal), and also co-produced by Teatro Virgínia / Municipality of Torres Novas. The project is funded by the Portuguese Republic – Directorate-General for the Arts and the GDA Foundation.
