YHWH NAILGUN
The quartet of Zack Borzone (vocals), Jack Tobias (synth), Sam Pickard (drums), and Saguiv Rosenstock (guitar) display an innate ability to translate a primitive spirit into a modern form - something raw and instinctive reshaped through contemporary tools and collaborative intuition. Their sound feels immediate and tactile, yet carefully constructed, balancing urgency with a growing sense of intention.
Born during the lockdown as an experimental project between Borzone and Pickard in Philadelphia, the group initially emerged out of limitation and isolation. With fewer external distractions and a stripped-back environment, the project took shape through exploration and repetition, guided more by instinct than by any fixed direction. These early stages laid the groundwork for a process rooted in close collaboration and responsiveness.
As Borzone and Pickard relocated to New York, the project naturally expanded. Jack Tobias joined on synth for their debut self-titled EP, adding new tonal range and texture to the group’s evolving sound. The EP itself marked a turning point—not just in lineup, but in cohesion—bringing a broader palette while still preserving the immediacy of their origins. It was produced by Saguiv Rosenstock, whose role behind the scenes soon translated into a full integration into the band on guitar, completing the quartet.
That first collection stands as a document of self-discovery. It captures a band in the process of defining its own language—experimenting, refining, and identifying the tools necessary to make songs within their own ecosystem. Rather than adhering to external frameworks, they focused inward, developing a collaborative, close-knit writing process that emphasized shared instinct and collective decision-making.
Through this process, they honed in on their own world - one shaped by repetition, tension, and release - and uncovered the essential structures and emotional undercurrents that define YHWH Nailgun. The result is music that feels both deliberate and unfiltered, rooted in a sense of immediacy while pointing toward something more fully formed.
