Just Write Porto, in collaboration with Espaço Agra, are delighted to host a series of Writer’s Conversations in which our members share their expertise. The first of these is:

Writing across media, led by Iris Yamashita

This conversation is directed at writers who are interested in writing across media—including screen, books, audio and stage—and the differences between them. How does the content and your role as a writer change between the formats? What are the challenges of each and how do you break into these outlets? Iris will share her own experiences writing for these different media and participants are invited to contribute with questions, discussion and their own insights.

Iris Yamashita is an Academy-award nominated screenwriter of the movie Letters from Iwo Jima, directed by Clint Eastwood. She is also an Anthony and Barry award-nominated mystery author. Her book, City Under One Roof, was named by the Washington Post as one of the 12 Best Thrillers of 2023 and was featured in the New York Times as a Great Locked Room Mystery Novel. She has also written a six-part audio series for BBC World Service, called Purple Heart Warriors, which won a Rockie award for Best Fiction Podcast and has been nominated for an Ambies award and an Audio Drama award. She has also dabbled in writing a musical for Tokyo Disneyland with Tony Award-winning composer Jeannine Tesori.
