Misturadora 1.0
Kheper Moon, Soda Cáustica and Três ao Acaso are the three trios that emerged from the Misturadora 1.0 residency organized by the Basqueiral festival. At the end of last year, this project challenged musicians from as many different musical backgrounds as possible — mostly based in Santa Maria da Feira and surrounding municipalities — to play and compose within a short period of time. The bands made their live debut on December 27 at Museu de Lamas and now present themselves for the second time exclusively at Radioclube Agramonte.
With a more rock-oriented sound, Três ao Acaso and Soda Cáustica offer quite distinct approaches. The former are based on poems by Filipa Pinho, a poet from Cucujães, whose works are recited or sung by Miguel Flores, the band’s vocalist and guitarist, accompanied by a relentless and immersive instrumental backdrop. The remaining members are drummer Pedro Lopes and bassist Afonso Castro, a member of BATISKAF. The latter present instrumental compositions with room for improvisation. Their sound draws from diverse influences, ranging from post-rock to indie, and, in terms of percussion, also incorporating Portuguese traditional, Arabic, and Brazilian music. The band intuitively and organically finds common ground among each member’s inspirations, which is reflected in the seamless connection between songs and sections, without pauses and with a constant thread running throughout. The trio consists of Rui Santos (Cat Soup, tédio fc, Bug Snapper) on guitar, Daniel Cardoso on bass, and Márcia Cardoso on drums and percussion.
Kheper Moon, formed by Anja Calas on vocals and electronics, Manuel Guerra on keyboards, and Pedro Lopes (Summer of Hate, Jabspin, odd bounds) on drums, present an experimental sound that ranges from jazz to noise. With spatial drones, raw drums, and keyboards on steroids, they craft suspended soundscapes. There is a slow flight between the weight of the earth and the vertigo of space — something very dense that evokes a movement through ethereal planes.
