LISTENING SESSION // 10 Years of “Atrocity Exhibition” LISTENING SESSION // 10 Years of “Atrocity Exhibition”
Music on Music is delighted to present a listening session celebrating the 10th anniversary of Danny Brown’s Atrocity Exhibition, followed by a live online interview with producers Paul White and HOLLY. Both will join the session to discuss the 2016 masterpiece that established the Detroit rapper as one of the most singular voices in contemporary hip-hop, their respective contributions throughout Danny Brown’s career, and the influence the album has had over the past decade.

The event is free admission and will take place at RCA/Espaço Agra on 8 October 2026 at 9pm.

Following the success of XXX (2011) and Old (2013), Atrocity Exhibition not only marked Brown’s debut on Warp Records, but also offered a profoundly dark portrait of his own self-destruction and the nightmares, traumas and pitfalls of fame haunting the darkest corners of his mind. A perfect storm of lyrical introspection, constantly elevated by dazzling instrumentals drawing on everything from the post-punk of legends such as Joy Division and psychedelic and industrial music to the foundations of classic hip-hop, alongside heavyweight guest appearances from Earl Sweatshirt, Kendrick Lamar, Kelela, B-Real and Petite Noir, Brown’s most uncompromising work continues to sound like no other hip-hop album released before or since. It is a dizzying, unsettling descent into hell, walking a fine line between loss of control and abrasive chaos.

At the helm of the album’s groundbreaking production is London-based artist and producer Paul White, responsible for 10 of the 15 tracks on Atrocity Exhibition and for some of Brown’s most distinctive tracks over the years. White has also released solo material, a collaborative album with Eric Biddines under the name Golden Rules, and work with Open Mike Eagle, as well as contributing to projects by Sudan Archives, Obongjayar and Charli xcx. His longstanding creative relationship with Danny Brown, however, makes their work intrinsically intertwined, setting them apart as one of the few artist-producer partnerships to have jointly reinvented the forms and sounds a hip-hop album can take. White is therefore the ideal guest to reflect on the enduring legacy of Atrocity Exhibition and his work with Danny Brown as a whole.

Joining White will be Miguel Oliveira (aka HOLLY). Originally from Caldas da Rainha and currently based in Los Angeles, the Portuguese producer and DJ has built a strong presence in both the Portuguese and international hip-hop scenes while increasingly establishing himself in electronic music. His extensive list of collaborations ranges from Baauer, Machinedrum and RL Grime to Slow J, Dengaz and Papillon. HOLLY has also worked with Danny Brown on several occasions, producing the title track of Quaranta (2023) and five of the 14 tracks on the rapper’s latest album, Stardust (2025).
