Calcutá is the sonic territory of Teresa Castro, a composer, multi-instrumentalist and sound artist based in Porto.
Classically trained as a guitarist, she intertwines strands of folk, drone, ambient and experimental music, creating an entirely personal sonic lexicon: persistent guitars, harmoniums that breathe like living organisms, and electronics — subtle yet effective — pulsing within a sonic ritual. Her voice — at times an intimate lament, at others an extended breath — becomes an instrument that guides us through spaces where time slows down and listening deepens.
Her evocative compositions exist as fragments of an inner world, leading us to contemplate emotional landscapes that emerge from abstraction, texture and tone. Each piece functions as a shelter for feeling, a meditative gesture, or a body dissolving into resonance.
She released her first demo Love Path Again in 2015, followed by the EP Over Night in 2017. In 2024 she presented Feux d’Artifice, an ambient piece that marks a new phase. As a sound artist, she has composed for theatre Real Dog (Solange Freitas, 2017), for cinema Anoche Conquisté Tebas (Gabriel Azorín, 2025), and developed several installations, culminating recently in the quadraphonic installation Madre Antiga at the Monastery of Arouca (2025).
Live — accompanied by Luís Barros on drums and percussion and Maria Amaro on double bass, voice and keyboard — she offers a hypnotic, dense and freely structured performance. In December 2025 she released Eterno Retorno, anticipating her debut album Soon After Dawn, to be released on January 23rd, 2026.
The concert features an opening act by Maria Amaro.
