Horta do Agra: Agroecologia em Movimento Horta do Agra: Agroecologia em Movimento
"With the documentary Agroecologia em Movimento, we want to show that it is possible to farm in a fairer and more ecological way, which is already happening from north to south of the country with the Associations for the Maintenance of Local Agriculture (AMAP), also known as CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture).

An AMAP/CSA is organized when a group of people decide to commit to local farmers to join forces and share the risks and rewards of ecologically grown produce. An unusual relationship of solidarity is born, in which there are no longer two parties with different interests. People stop consuming goods that come from far away and become co-producers, caring for the common good: food and those who produce it.

In Portugal, there are currently eight such groups in operation, with around 300 people involved in a model of production and purchasing without intermediaries, cultivating a relationship of trust, shared responsibility, and mutual support. This contributes to a more dignified life for those who produce what we eat and a fairer price for those who need to eat well.

We want to raise the profile of this movement for food sovereignty, which is regenerating the relationship between producers and buyers, while also regenerating the soil and preserving landscapes and agricultural varieties, the basis of the gastronomic traditions that warm our memories.

In addition to the historical importance of documenting the progress of the AMAP/CSA movement in Portugal, we hope that the documentary will have a multiplier effect, motivating others to replicate this model."

At Agra, we have a vegetable garden with five beds of vegetables and aromatic herbs. These beds were built over time during our monthly meetings in the garden. Throughout the process, we had the tremendous support, guidance, and enthusiasm of Filipa Almeida, representative of Jardins Al Dente.

The beds are fertilized with compost produced here, made from food scraps from the kitchen and bar, thus creating a direct relationship between cultivation and consumption. When it is time to harvest, the food is shared with the community and some is used in Agra's kitchen to enrich the dishes with flavors grown right next door.

In addition to being a place for cultivation, the garden has become a place for meeting, learning, and taking a break, where participants can find time to slow down, be present, and connect with nature in the middle of the city and busy days.

The garden sessions are open to anyone interested in coming, with or without experience :)
