AMIJAS
Everyone has seen this scenario: a group of girlfriends gathers, in a nocturnal setting, for a trip to the bathroom. In between conversations, everything is discussed: menstruation, desserts, existential pains. From those conversations, few answers remain — but a feeling that we are not alone.
This story begins sometime in 2022. On a drunken night, two of the band’s founding members had to resort to an improvised bathroom and saw, on a sloped street next to the mythical Largo das Carvalheiras in Braga, the perfect spot. Legend has it that, each on her side of the street, they watched their liquids flow until they met — that was the sign they needed to start this project.
Amijas’ self-titled debut album inhabits that journey between the bar and the bathroom, between the bathroom and the blurred arrival home, with all the moments that make it up. In this work, composed of 8 original tracks and a version of the underground anthem “Inútil” (by fellow locals Vai-te Foder), they bring us a fluid and uncompromising rock sound, adding wind instruments, electronic textures, and the cold-hot combo of the two voices that materialize this universe — without discriminating between blood, sweat or tears.
Following the release of the “Mirone Digital” music video, we now present the second gateway into this album with the single titled “Suor” — a collaboration that brings in another accomplice: Tricla, a furtive rapper from Braga, in an energetic fusion between rock, anti-rap, and bodily odors.
The album, supported by the creation grant program Trabalho da Casa from gnration, will be released on April 1st through Favela Discos, with support from Cantigas do Poço. It will be available on the usual digital platforms.
